Common BPM tasks across DAWs

  • Find the project tempo: Most DAWs show BPM in the top transport area or LCD display.
  • Change tempo: Click and drag the BPM value, or double-click to type.
  • Tap tempo: Available in all major DAWs, often via Action List or assignable shortcut.
  • Detect BPM from audio: Ableton (Warp), Logic (Smart Tempo), FL Studio (Edison), Pro Tools (Beat Detective), Cubase (Tempo Detection), Reaper (Detect tempo of media). GarageBand does not have automatic BPM detection.
  • Automate tempo: All DAWs support tempo automation via dedicated tempo tracks or envelopes.
