About BPM Calc

BPM Calc is a free, no-signup tap tempo calculator that helps DJs, producers, musicians, and music students find the BPM (beats per minute) of any song. Tap a button or press spacebar in time with the beat, and the tool calculates the tempo in real time by averaging your last 8 taps.

Beyond the core tap tool, the site includes a complete reference for BPM by music genre across 24+ styles and a guide to Italian tempo markings (Allegro, Adagio, Presto and more) used in classical music.

BPM Calc is built and maintained by Pete Callaghan, a music technology founder with over a decade of experience building tools for the music industry.

The tool averages your last 8 taps to smooth out timing variations from human reaction time. With 8 or more taps in time with the beat, accuracy is typically within 1-2 BPM. The auto-reset after 3 seconds of inactivity prevents stale data from skewing the result.

For best accuracy, tap on the kick drum or snare rather than melodic elements, and tap for at least 8 beats.
